Had a super fun time at my first @themobnw meet-up at @hipchicksdowine last night. I even won a raffle prize from @chowthispdx - 3 jars of amazing, homemade salsa and pickles.

Salsa and pickles are both great healthy snacks; just be sure to look for low-sugar varieties with "real food" listed in the ingredients (like these babies) and you're good to go! If you're local and want to grab a jar or two of Chow This, she'll be making the rounds at Portland-area farmer's markets!

Anyone else have a really fun weekend!? I know I did! A few years ago, the Monday after a fun weekend would mean lots of restriction and over-exercising and making up for everything I ate and drank. It's a very hamster wheel way of living your life; it's exhausting and it doesn't work.

Instead, I just carry on with my regular routine. I ate breakfast and drank plenty of water before my coffee. I do like having some Dandelion tea with lemon if I'm feeling bloated because it seems to help me let go of the extra water, but don't be lured in by products claiming to detox or reset.

Life is too short to not enjoy yourself, and it's certainly too short to then punish yourself for having a good time. So, be kind and gentle with yourself as we head into the week. The choices you made this weekend don't have to correspond with the choices you make today.

It's been a rough couple weeks. My partner has been traveling, my toddler is cutting molars, and my chronic migraines are back. Nevermind the insanity that is our national news: both from D.C. and Hollywood. It's been overwhelming to say the least.

It's really easy to feel insignificant in the grand scheme of things. I've been trying to stay grounded in positivity, reminding myself that I am now helping to raise a new generation to hopefully reverse some of the damage. I'm trying to set the example for my son that women are strong, capable, and confident. Some days are easier than others.

I slogged through my workout today, but I'm glad I got it done. I may have ripped open my shin doing box jumps... But I finished. A little pain, a little heartache, all in the name of growth. "Though she be but little, she is fierce."

I MADE IT! Yesterday marked day 30 of my first EVER successful #whole30.

My sugar cravings have significantly decreased, my skin is super clear, I'm consistently less bloated, lost 2% body fat, but most importantly: I feel STRONG AF. Both physically, and mentally.

My relationship with food has always been complicated, to say the least. I finally feel able to make decisions about how to fuel my body, without feeling compelled to eat for emotional reasons. Will I still eat cookies and drink wine? Uh, YEAH. But only if I actually WANT to in that specific moment and not just because they're there. Or because I'm stressed, or tired, or sad, or whatever it is.

Yes I lost weight, but the body fat % loss is way more exciting to me because it means I'm getting leaner while getting stronger. I've been working out 3-4 days/week for about 40 mins or less at a time; mostly moderate to heavy lifting. If you want to hop on board the transformation train, give me a shout. I don't have challenge groups, or meal plans you have to follow, or shakes to make you buy, but I WILL create a specific plan tailored to your goals and help you achieve them.

My toddler has been on a rampage for most of the week, I'm exhausted, and my hip hurts... But I finally replaced my broken fitbit watch band with this cute green number, and I'm only five days away from finishing my first successful #whole30!!! #silverlinings #alwayslookonthebrightsideoflife #powerofpositivity

I don't make many Instagram-worthy meals when I #whole30, but this brunch burger stack was🔥🔥🔥

Today is Day 17, which officially makes it my longest whole30 attempt without regressing back into any of my ED behaviors. I don't feel like I'm in a magical "tiger blood" state or anything, but for the first time in a while (maybe ever?) I feel like I am in total control of my relationship with food. This is in no small part due to my amazing therapist and my [painfully slow] acceptance that a single failure does not make ME a failure. More on all this at a later date 😉

Don't forget, staying fit means staying well-rested. You can push yourself and follow a "perfect diet," but if you never allow your body to recover, you will never see the results you're after. ---
I feel like I should repeat that for the other mamas that are stubborn like me and feel guilty taking naps or breaks in the day: If you never allow your body to recover, you would never see the results you're after. ---
Grabbed a power nap during the toddler's naptime before taking on the rest of my day. My head feels clearer, my chest feels lighter, and I'm no longer dreading the hours until bedtime. I realize not everyone has the luxury of napping, but even talking 5-10 minutes of unplugged quiet to yourself can be a great recharge; physically and mentally.

Starting a few days late, but my September #whole30 has begun! On top of not fueling myself very well (too much dairy and sugar), my body is not responding well to weaning my toddler. Hoping a little reset will balance all the hormones and make both my tummy and brain feel better.
